Yale University Art Gallery Presents Vincent Van Gogh’s Turning Points

A graduate of Yale University, Audrey Buchner is a dedicated mother and active volunteer. In addition to serving on the Volunteer Committee for the Yale College Alumni Fund, Audrey Buchner was a governing board member of the Yale University Art Gallery.

Founded in 1832, the Yale University Art Gallery now features more than 200,000 pieces of art representing Eastern and Western cultures. The museum’s collection highlights works ranging from ancient times to the present and encourages visitors to deepen their understanding of art and its role in society.

The Yale University Art Gallery hosts exhibitions as well as educational opportunities including lectures, performances, panel discussions, artist talks, readings, and screenings. In April, the museum will host John Walsh, director emeritus of the J. Paul Getty Museum, as he continues his six-part lecture series, Vincent Van Gogh’s Turning Points.

In the series, Mr. Walsh examines the ways Van Gogh’s interests and abilities developed over the course of his career. Drawing heavily on correspondence between Van Gogh and his brother, Mr. Walsh has deduced major influences in the artist’s life, including encounters with contemporary post-impressionist artists, relocations throughout Europe, spiritual crises, and mental illness. All of these events shaped Van Gogh in profound ways, changing his approach to art and enhancing his unique and expressive style.

The remaining four presentations in Vincent Van Gogh’s Turning Points will take place on April 5, 12, 18, and 26, 2019, at the Robert L. McNeil, Jr., Lecture Hall.
